Then join the distorted image club. I always encourage people to be excellent, not average. But looking at the norm can help us realize that our condition isn't as bad as we thought.
In America we seem obsessed with weight, yet fitness should be more important to us than pounds. There are many skinny people who are in very poor condition physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. "If I had the choice between being 10 pounds over weight", healthy and happy, or be 10 pounds under weight, miserable and un healthy, I would choose the extra pounds.
I'm not suggesting that we can be over weight and just not care. But I am suggesting that we be more health-conscious than weight-conscious. I firmly believe that if we concentrate on good health we will ultimately weigh what is right for us as individuals.
We live in an age where thin is in, and where our attitudes toward fat run close to hysteria. Lose weight if you feel you need to, but don't let anyone tell you that your weight is unhealthy or unnatural if it isn't.
And by all means don't let a few pounds keep you from loving and accepting yourself.
Remember this isn't a license to ignore what you weigh, but it is an invitation to refrain from obsessing over it. Concentrate on being healthy and fit.
