I have been working with Major Batton for approx. 3 years, concentrating mainly on strength training and have truly experienced amazing health benefits. I was pretty dedicated to cardio, but hadn’t done much with strength training. At 50++ I’m prescription free (no blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetic etc. medications); lowered my cholesterol by over 20pts. Until the last few years I’ve had low back pain (extremely severe at times) due to mild scoliosis, degenerative disk disease and a rupture. After many tests, therapies, pain relievers and injections, I was told I needed surgery. This was not the answer I wanted hear and was really not an option that I was going to pursue, especially after watching my mom and a very close friend deal with issues from 2 back surgeries. I instead decided to try more exercise and strength training to help strengthen my low back and core, in hopes that this would help . In the past several years I’ve experienced absolutely no back pain even after extremely strenuous activities (including picking up heavy items, bending/twisting, running) and sitting for extended periods. Best of all I can still water ski for some distance without having any low back pain after. For the first time in 10 years I was able to complete 2 - ½ marathons in the past couple years and ran the entire way in the last one, with my all-time personal best. His guidance with the right exercises and strength training have done wonders. I’m stronger and feel better than I did 15-20 years ago; actually I’m in the best shape of my life. I even passed the Presidents Fitness Challenge 2 years in a row. I can pretty much participate in any physical event that I want to and not worry about hurting myself; whether it be canoeing with my son or hiking in the mountains, running a ½ marathon, or just doing chores at home. I have more confidence to try new things and he continues to keep challenging me to do more.
Our work out facility and Major’s presence and ability to motivate individuals to achieve healthier bodies and habits is a wonderful benefit for us all; I’m very thankful. Even on the days that I’m too busy to work out, just 20 minutes of cardio really helps to clear my mind and I always feel less stressed when I return to my desk. I hope to continue working with him until I retire. My goal is to still be as active and healthy when I retire as I am now.
A big thank you to Major for his dedication and spirit in keeping myself and the rest of us healthier and happier. J
