My wellness story is not a new story but a continuation of what I started 5 years ago. My goals 5 years ago were simple - lose weight & be more active, but it has turned to much more than just that. I have a competitive streak so I’m always setting personal challenges for myself.
How did I achieve these goals & what am I doing to maintain?
First I started working out with Major Batton 3X’s per week. This helped me to get the mindset needed to continue working out on my own at home. I started walking @ home for exercise as well. I started with short walks of 10/15 minutes 4 to 5 times a week, and every week I would extend the time by 5 minutes. I have found that by setting personal challenges that I can achieve. I can then stay focused on my health goals.

Walking led to other challenges. I have now participated in numerous ½ marathons to date. My first ½ marathons I only walked. My time in that first ½ marathon was 3:20:59. I then started walking faster and kept reducing my time. My next goal was to break the less than 3:00:00 time barrier. I couldn’t do this by just walking. I then started thinking that in order to make my new goal I had to do the dreaded running. This past November 1 I did the Indianapolis ½ marathon, I did a run/walk and finished in 2:59:58. I finally reached my goal. Then on November 15, 2014 I did the Honor Flight ½ marathon and finished in 2:56:19. My goal is to keep getting better. I’ve joined a group of runners/walkers for 2015. My goal is to run/walk 2,015 miles in 2015. This is not daily miles, but exercise miles.

I’ve lost weight, and I’m more active, but that isn’t the whole story. I have also lowered my total cholesterol by more than 40 points my blood pressure has been lowered as well. The walking & running also helps me to clear my mind. I feel great!
The wellness program here @ MillerCoors Trenton has helped me to focus on my health & to take the necessary steps to improve & maintain my health by taking part in the different programs offered.
In closing I would just like to say:
There are thing that I could do 20 years ago that I can no longer do, but I am doing things now that I never thought about doing 20 years ago.
